So, unfortunately, I can't continue my Guerilla Street Art project at school for 4 weeks starting this week because there's a long break going on and every week's cut off with something. So, for the next 3 weeks, I will be posting interval posts like I did for 2 weeks before the polaroid arc started. So I hope you guys are okay with it, I predict my Guerilla Street Art project will still end in late May.
This post is going to be a short one, because all I will be covering today is a list of things, projects, and hobbies that I would like to work on if there's long breaks from school happening like this one, and if I've got free time in general.
For the first one, I'm thinking of relaunching my small business. Now, I got a little bit obsessed with small businesses 2-5 years ago in 2020 and 2023. At first, I started selling digital products and stickers on Gumroad and Etsy and I've made a couple hundred Dollars from them, and now that I'm in high school, I'm in a dire state where I need money the most. And don’t get me wrong, I like saving up money since I'm in Junior High, but the money I've saved up always got spent at the end, so let's just say I like saving up but I'm not very good at it. I have a couple of small business ideas among them are stickers, notepads, keychains, and pin badges for the physical products. But I think this time I will focus on digital products, because they're the simplest form of passive income, in my opinion. The digital products I'm so excited to do are e-books. I wanted to write something about art or blogging and I wanted to sell the e-books on Gumroad, Etsy, or other digital platforms and promote it here! It will be perfect because this blog is my whole writing journey and my e-book will be the final result. But don’t get too excited yet, because after all it’s all still plans, I have to really sit down and think if I ever wanted to write something so serious like a book. Another digital products I also wanted to create are procreate brush packs, because I’m so obsessed with making those back in the day, and maybe digital art tutorial kits, the idea is that I made a course video for the digital art tutorial, a guide book for it, and the necessary digital items to create those art as well (such as procreate/photoshop brushes, color palettes, and canvases), and I also wanted to make a digital coloring book or a digital illustrated book! Because one of my dream is being a children’s book illustrator and writer, where I write fictional stories for children (like Enid Blyton!) and illustrate them myself. And I also wanted to illustrate for other author’s books or co-write with them. I imagine the pay isn’t going to be great, but it’s just something that I wanted to do for so long, it’s a secret dream of mine.
For the second one, I've been trying to focus on but failed many times, because I think it took 1-2 hours to practice everyday to finally get used to, it's learning to play bass guitar. I've been wanting to learn how to play it, I currently have the instrument in my room but I only have a headphone amp in the meantime and my headphone's just broke last week, I don't know what to do now. I wanted to buy a new one but my bank account is acting up so bad right now. I already have a "bass book" it's a book to record my journey of learning the instrument, I'm currently 6 pages in... So yeah, the progress is pretty bad, I would say. And what made it progress so slowly is that I have this fear of being watched. I don’t have the words to describe it exactly but basically I get super uneasy whenever someone can see what I’m doing, even when they didn’t care, but I just can’t shake off the feeling. I usually pick up my bass if I know I’m in my house alone, and that only happens once in a while.
The third one is a productivity issue, it's about deep-cleaning my own room. So, me and my sister share a room and it's pretty messy but not a ‘chick flick heroine's room’ messy, but my desk drawer is filled with junks and I'm sure I need some of those junks but I really need to organize and arrange my stuff. And the fact that there’s books everywhere, I don’t like how it looks but I’m not in a place to say anything since I’m the one at fault here.
Fourth, I’d like to skate again. And by ‘skate’ I mean roller skate and skate using a skateboard. My roller skate is too small for my feet now, I’ve had them since I was 9, and they didn’t fit me anymore so what’s left is my skateboard. My skateboard’s been abandoned since forever and I felt bad every time I see it. I’ve abandoned it in 2022, if I remembered correctly, after I did my first ollie. I wanted to learn other tricks too, but I guess I’m not that patient when learning a trick… Every time I’ve seen people online doing good with their boards, I felt so guilty because mine was just sitting in the cupboard.
For the fifth, I’d like to catch up on my reading. I have a couple of books that I’ve only read halfway and then abandoned, and books that I’ve bought but haven’t got to reading yet. And I also have e-books on Apple Books of classics that I’ve been dying to read in forever! But, somehow I just never got the time to spare to just sit and read them. One of the book I mentioned is “The Woman In White” by Wilkie Collins, which is a 600-ish page English classic novel, and I’ve only read the beginning and it’s pretty interesting but I can’t get over the boring conversations in the Limmeridge house. After The Woman In White, I wanted to read a book that I recently bought and haven’t read yet, “The Picture Of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde, I’ve been wanting to read this classic, I just haven’t seen it around in my local bookstore, which is odd because it’s one of the most popular classics I’ve known, but I finally found one! And I immediately bought it, of course. There’s more abandoned books I’d like to read, and it would be a 10,000 words article if I kept writing about them here, so let’s leave it at that.
The sixth could be weird for those who weren’t an artist or the same type of artist like me, I’ve been wanting to finish my current sketchbook. There’s 16 sheets left in it, which may not seem like a lot, but as someone who spent hours on 1 page in a sketchbook that just meant I potentially will have to spend approximately 32 hours to finish this sketchbook. Even though it’s a B6 sketchbook, which is small (about a little smaller than A5), I’m not satisfied with no-effort drawings that took a couple of minutes to draw, sometimes I do them but they always ended up being my least favorite drawings in my sketchbook, so I still wanted to do detailed drawings on each of the pages. The main reason I wanted to finish my current sketchbook is because I’m sick of small sketchbooks, and I’ve already bought an A4 sketchbook that I’ve been dying to start drawing on! I think using bigger sketchbooks had so much more potential, I could do big illustrations, detailed original character pages, and more.
And seventh, I wanted to write daily logs again. Daily logs are journals where you could write about your day and complain about everything that goes wrong in your life, it’s also known by the name ‘diary’, but that name is insensitive, I prefer daily logs. I use to write them a lot in 2023, because I used to be a Diary of A Wimpy Kid & Dork Diaries tween, and so I started writing them myself, including making the doodles as well. I think writing daily logs is a healthy hobby, if you wanted to vent but there’s no one by your side to listen, daily logs can be a good alternative.
Eighth, I wanted to make a bunch of pins… I bought a bunch of snap-in pins about a month ago, and I've already made a couple of hand-drawn pins I'm proud of, but I bought so much of those snap-in pins, I think it might last me a lifetime. This time, I wanted to print out pictures or my digital drawings and turn it into pins! Other than that, I actually wanted to buy a pin badge maker. This Eid, I might have enough money saved up to buy that, I mean, I do have enough right now, but I will be so poor after I bought it, I don't think I'm ready to be penniless in this economy.
Ninth is about making air-dry clay keychains. I've made a couple of clay keychains for myself, including my ‘emo cookie’ where I made a gingerbread-man-cookie-shaped clay keychain, and I painted it into an emo teen, and I've made another clay keychain in the shape of rainbow dash’s cutie mark! Now, I wanted to experiment with what I could possibly do with all these air-dry clay. Maybe I'll try sculpting a human model with it, who knows.
Second to last, I about to mention an unproductive habit of mine here, which is gaming. So, I got gaming addiction last semester… And it didn't end well. The process of recovery from it is painful. I then proceed to never touch a video game in the next 2 months after it happened. But I played again this March, and it didn't feel the same. So, I wanted to recover from my gaming addiction for real now by playing a healthy amount of video games every week, like a normal person.
And last but not least, I wanted to start a couple new hobbies. Among them are making shrinky dink keychains, crocheting or knitting, and making altoid tins.
I already have wishlisted the necessary supplies I have to buy if I wanted to make shrinky dink keychains, and that includes a small heat gun, shrinky dink papers, UV resin, portable UV flashlight, and keychain rings. I wishlisted those stuff on a local online store and it's cheaper than I thought it would be, considering it's a lot of stuff. But I'll buy it a soon as I have money to spare.
For the knitting and crocheting stuff, I figured I could just grab the materials and tools at a local art store, because it's only a crochet or knitting needle and some yarns, right? But the main confusion right now is that I don't know what to pick between knitting or crocheting because both looks like it made the same thing but only using different techniques and tools. So, if I could get your opinion, what should I pick?
Finally, the last one is making tin wallets. The idea is that it's a form of gift! I like making stuff personalized for the person I'm giving a present to. It feels special to be thought about. So my plan is to buy a lot of those Altoid tins and different shapes of mirrors. So I could put mirrors in each of the tin wallets and customize it in different themes matching each person's aesthetic and also including products they like, e.g.: lip balms, bubble gum drops, etc.
So, the conclusions for this post is that I have many agendas for this break, and hopefully so for the summer break as well, and that’s all for this week’s post, and sorry again for the Guerilla Street Art project delay. But quick notice, next week I won't be posting anything, because I'm working on a lengthy article for April 12th, I predicted it to reach 3,000 words! So see you again in 2 weeks!
