Polaroid Journey: A Photographed Guide to The World Of Guerilla Art

This week we're back on Laney's Guerilla Art project. It's been 2 weeks of unrelated posts but we're here to finally come back to the Real Thing (by Alice In Chains...Just kidding). For you who didn't follow my blog, this project is where I spread around different kinds of art in places at my school, for example hand-drawn postcards, Polaroids, drawn sticky notes, and more. Last week I did postcards in the school library, and most of them were aimed to cheer up the whole library, and they turned out great. So, the next Guerilla Street Art that I'm going to do is... *drumroll please* Polaroids taped to trees and poles! Since my school is pretty green itself, there's a lot of different trees in the school field, and a few notable poles around as well. And so I'm going to capture 5 photos throughout the week from Monday to Friday, print them into Polaroids, and put them on random trees and poles at school on Saturday.

So the journey begins on the place next to my class where lies a secret hidden storage room next to a literal well. I don't know what's more intriguing, the fact that there's a super tiny hidden storage room or the fact that there's a well next to my class. But it's interesting because I've seen 2 student body members hangout there as only 2 people can fit there, honestly. And there goes my first target, I've made it nice and simple when I captured it, just enough area to cover the room and the well altogether. While I don't know which tree to put this picture to later on, I think it should be far and far away from my class. And for the rest of this series, I don't want to take anymore photos near my class because it's a very risky business of the person who found the Polaroids linking the places together and thought "Oh well well well, look what we have here... Looks like the vandal spends their time daily on this specific class... How Interesting." And before you know it, I will be called to the principal's office or something worse, expelled. I doubt that would happen, but one can't be too careful.

The next target is the small park near the entrance of our school. It's the most green area in school, in my opinion. But it's very close to the school field, if I took a snap at it, people will be looking... Unless I pretended to be a member of the Journalism club. One of my classmate is in the Journalism club, and I think I could grab her name tag for a little while. But we're not really friendly in class, she's in a whole different friend group as me. So we know nothing about each other but our names. So I decided despite all those plans, I will just sit in a bench next to that park and took a quick snap of it. And I did. The school's park, although I don't really know why it's there in the first place, it's a place where anyone from any class can hang out, sit in benches that's made out of freshly chopped wood. And there's this cool man-made waterfall in the center, it's officially the coolest place in school, in my opinion, other than the library, of course.

The third polaroid is a photo of the wall in the school lobby, you may think that I've run out of ideas because I took a photo of a wall, but no, it's not just any wall, it's a 3D mural that intimidated me when I first arrived at my school as a freshman. It's a drawing of a landscape with pop-ups traditional houses made with wood-like materials that's attached to the wall making it look like a part of the landscape painting. I got the idea to shoot this when our scout coach was replaced, this new coach liked meetings so much that we go to that same lobby once or twice every week since he's in charge. So, while waiting for those meetings to start, I usually look around the lobby and sometimes I can't take my eyes off that wall.

Day four, a pretty basic photograph of a door to a room that's only allowed for teachers. It's the teacher's bathroom and storage room. I know it's risky since it's off limits to students, but I wanted to capture the boredom of having to wait for your friends while they shower in the teacher's bathroom on Student Camp Day, which is arguably the worst 3 days of my life. I found some old stuff in there, like the trophy from 1969, and also misprinted portraits of war heroes. The photo looked rotten, as it is a combination of a bathroom and storage/supply room, and like I said, it's filled with rotten old stuff, except for the beloved scout stave. And what's so intriguing about this area, is that it consisted of a couple of room, but there's these 2 rooms, in which the walls were made out of thin wood planks, and my friend theorized that one of them may be the cleaning guy's office. But I thought, why would a cleaning guy need an office? And they replied with "the cleaning guy probably sleeps at school sometimes, so the school gave him that room." But honestly, if I was the cleaning guy, I would've slept at the teacher's lounge since they have 6 air conditioners.

The last photograph that I took specifically on Friday is a photo of the staircase in the front building near our school's main hall. I passed though that stair countless of times and each time I can't help but notice the school's mascot costume being abandoned under the staircase. It looked creepy and old, so I guess I shouldn't look more into it, it might be haunted. So, I wanted to photograph this to remind students of the supernaturals that happens in school.

So, that's all of the polaroids that I've made and give out this week, and that's all for this week's article, I hope you guys like it, and spoiler alert: at the end of my Guerilla Street Art project, I will show you the visualisation of everything I've made during this project, so stay tuned!! And goodbye.
