Origami Game: The Tale Of The Bookmark Origamis

We're finally back after three interval posts for each week school was out, and now we're back in action, Lane here and I'm going to be your host for today and the rest of this Guerilla Street Art project by none other than me.

For those of you who didn't tune in the first few posts about this project, Lane's Guerilla Street Art project is where I go through 5 styles of Guerilla Street Art, like postcards and polaroid, and spread them around school to be found by other students. I often put these Guerilla Art in hidden places, like the postcards inside random books in the school library and the polaroid of photos in poles and trees around school. This week we're moving on to the third act in this project, which is the Tale of Origami Bookmarks. I will make 3 origami bookmarks of the same kind each day (e.g. on Monday I made 3 origami of cats, on Tuesday it's something else), and I will put them in places around school that potentially camouflage the bookmark and help them blend in, so let's get to the documentation.

Monday. For the first day of the week, I made 3 butterfly-shaped bookmarks from three colors of origamis, which is light blue, yellow, and light green. I followed Helena’s Craft’s tutorial for this one. I wanted to hid them in places that a butterfly could easily have been, like on top of flowers. If you read my polaroid arc post, you know that there’s a collection of flower pots near my class, and that’s where I wanted to put these bookmarks on. I tried picking the flowers and plants that has similar colors to the bookmarks, but my luck ran out because there’s no flower that’s close to the color blue, so I put the blue butterfly in a pink hibiscus flower pot.

Tuesday. I made three little fishes for the second day, I followed Bookmark’s tutorial for this bookmarks. There’s a purple one, a green one, and a yellow one. I actually named them, the purple is Sam, the green one is Gracie, and my personal favorite, the yellow one is Cory. I added a little extra details of dots for their eyes, and I immediately knew where to put them, which is near the pond in our school’s small park, as mentioned in my polaroid arc posts.

Wednesday. It’s time for the paper crane bookmark. It’s by far the hardest one to make, it took so much steps to complete, and I followed Origami Library’s tutorial for this one. I really love how these turned out, because it’s the one that looked more intricate and more like an origami creation rather than a paper bookmark. I think it’s because it’s the shape of a normal bookmark origami but with a tiny, detailed paper crane folding on it. I made them from smaller square origamis because my first try with the regular-sized one didn’t turn out so well, it looked too big and I think it will cover a whole page when being used as a bookmark, while that might be of advantage to some people (so there’s no chance the bookmark with fall out of the book too easily), in a design perspective, I don’t like how it looks, and I’m glad I decided to use smaller origamis for this in the end. The colors I chose for the paper cranes are yellow, blue, and green. I hid it on top of this old building that has been demolished next to our cafeteria, I think that building used to be a library but it has been demolished before I go to that school, so I don’t know the exact history and why it hasn’t been replaced yet.

Thursday, I made some frogs with the color green, yellow, and orange. I followed Bookmark’s tutorial for this, but I altered some of the colors to add variations. Now, I don't wanna hear about how there's mostly only green frogs but I already Googled that there are frogs that are yellow, orange, red, even purple, but they're considered rare, so I'm not sure about this one, but hey, the others are pretty odd too, take the purple fishes for example, you just have to accept that it exist, even though it's weird. I put these frogs in three separate areas, which is under trees and on top of bushes.

Friday. For this day, I did a couple of turtles in some variation of colors, and the colors I picked are green, yellow, and purple. The tutorial I followed for this was another Bookmark’s tutorial, I think their channel really focuses on stuff like these, so I’ll be watching them for a while now. The purple one looked pretty odd, but I just wanted the person who found the origami to say “Look! A purple turtle!” That must be some kind of tongue twister. And, I put the turtles near the same small park in my school’s entrance, since they had a little pond in it, and I hid them near the same colored bushes as the turtles and now even I can’t tell where they are!

Lastly, Saturday. I made foxes! I followed Magic of creativity’s tutorial for this and I made them in the color orange, yellow, and pink, and I got to say, the pink one is so pretty. I almost kept them for myself, but that would be an act of betrayal to this project, but I’m just going to make another one after tomorrow. I put the foxes in this one area at school where I found mushrooms, and it’s some kind of garden because there’s a bunch of bushes and plants (and some flowers), and I heard foxes like gardens so it’ll be their little hang out place. And I’ve decided the pink fox is called Sally, or Shelly, what do you think?

To be quite honest with you, at first, I don’t know what to write about this arc, because I felt like there’s nothing to write, especially since there’s no personal touch from each piece. Take the postcard arc as an example, I drew them so I got a lot to write about it, and also the polaroid arc because I went on journey after journey to take those photos, and I proudly count that as my work, so I also have a lot to say about that, but in this one, I kept running out of things to write about. So, I’ll try my best again for next week!

That’s all I can write about for this week’s post, and I before I officially end this article, I wanted to announce something… I’m going to turn the 7th day prompt from my 30-day zine challenge into a real webzine! And it’ll be published soon in my issuu.com account and my Gumroad! So stay tuned! And I wish all of you who have been tuning in my Guerilla Street Art project journey the best week ever, see you next Saturday, Lane out.
