Funny story, I found this 30-day of zine challenge on Pinterest where you have to make a different themed zine everyday, it’s filled with unique prompts and since I like creating zines when I’m bored at school, I figured “let’s do this!” So, welcome to the full documentation of Lane's 30-days of zine! Where I ended up with 29 zines, and an experience. And note, this 30-day zine challenge isn’t from 1 challenge in particular, I combine these prompts from a couple different prompt challenges I found on Pinterest, if you’re interested feel free to follow these prompts as well, I would be ecstatic to hear if any of you follow these challenges.
Before we get started, I wanted to add context first. For those who don't know, A zine is a small book that's usually made with copy paper or notebook paper. You create and publish them by yourself. There's 2 methods in creating zines, which is digitally and traditionally. I personally prefer the traditional method, because you can just grab any paper lying around, fold them and draw on it. But if you prefer the new way, you could download a template for a digital zine, draw it digitally, print them and fold them according to the zine template you're using. There are also many types of zine folds you can do, but the most common one is the 8-page zine fold, check it out for further information.
In this challenge, I will be using the traditional method most of the time because I can create it anywhere using any paper, but I will also constantly switch out to digital. Let's get started then.
Day 1: "Create a Fanzine about something you’re currently obsessed with!"
So 'Fanzine', if you can't tell by the name already, is short for fan magazine, where you could write about things you are a fan of, for example a particular movie, band, sports team and basically anything that can be idolized, and sorts. In my case, I'm currently obsessed with Fall Out Boy's second record called "Take This To Your Grave" and I created an 8-page zine about it. The title of the zine itself is 'Fall Out Boy: specifically their 2nd record: Take This To Your Grave'. At the back cover, I wrote a short summary of the zine and a little ‘about the author’ corner. The first page is the album overview, where there’s general information like the album’s release date, contributing artists, and number of tracks. The second page has the full track list of the record. The third and fourth pages are dedicated to my top 3 songs, members, and lyrics in the album. And the last 2 pages are a bit more personal, they had my review of the album itself.
Day 2: "Experiment with other zine folds."
The current zine fold standard, that I personally use, is the normal 8-page zine. But there are other type of zine folds such as fliporello zines, tunnel, and stapled zines. The one I made for this day's prompt is a 16-page zine. It's micro, I would say, but it's still drawable, there's still some space in it. After I finish folding the paper for this, I thought "hmm, what's a topic that need a 16-page zine to cover?" And so I thought about things I know a lot of, and I chose tv shows. I turn it into a magazine style book called 'the Shows & Mayhem'. It's a subtle reference to the song 'Props & Mayhem' by no other than my favorite band, Pierce The Veil. This zine covers 10 of my favorite TV shows, and each TV shows have a drawing of the main subject featured in it, the show's broadcast years, main character actor/actress, the show duration in number of seasons and each episode minutes, my personal rating for the show, and a short synopsis and review of each shows. The shows I picked out is, CW's The Flash, Netflix's adaptation of A Series Of Unfortunate Events, Sabrina The Teenage Witch '90s sitcom, Gokusen, That '70s Show, Disney's The Mysterious Benedict Society, CW's Pretty Little Liars, BBC's Sherlock, Star Trek: The Original Series, and Hulu's Only Murders In The Building. And I also added other recommendations such as Clueless '90s show, H2O: Just Add Water, and CW's Constantine. Now, I know some of you reading will definitely judge my taste in TV shows, but I like these shows and I chose to stand by them. Also, that list is in a random order, before you get mad.
Day 3: "Make an autobiography about yourself."
I made this day's zine into 'A Perzine of the Schätzchen Biography'. Yep, that's literally the title of the zine. And I made a drawing of "myself" similar to the one for the introduction post in this blog as the cover. On page 1 & 2, I made the general information of myself, of course, not including confidential information like my real name. I made my birthdate, gender, relationship status, star sign, and nicknames in the very beginning of the general information part. I combined the third and fourth page into one creating a giant list of my favorite things. And on the last 2 pages I made a “Schätzchen Tunes” page, where I list out all my musical preferences, to the details…
Day 4: "What's a topic you know a lot about? Make an informational zine about it!"
Even though I'm not good at giving information, I will try my best because the topic I pick is art! I named the zine 'Art 101' where I write about the my definition for art itself, art mediums, and creativity. The first and second page is just about defining art, but I wrote about art mediums in the third and fourth page, and ending the zine in the fifth and sixth page, I write a heartfelt paragraph about how creativity is endless, and you can apply it to anything you can think of, the sky’s the limit. I felt my art block burns when I made this zine, because I’ve actually been experiencing art block long since the last 2 months, I haven’t drawn much, I’ve abandoned my bass guitar, and I haven’t sewn in such a long time. One of my hopes with this zine challenge is that I’ll gather up all my creative juices enough to recover from this art block, so hopefully it works by the end of the challenge.
Day 5: "Create a lyric book!"
I've been waiting my whole life for a zine prompt like this! Finally, my Pierce The Veil knowledge didn't go wasted... I made another 16-page zine for this lyric book, so I’ll have 14+ lyrics in this zine. I started the zine with a Pierce The Veil lyric, specifically from the song 'Drella'. And that lyric is followed by the verse from Operation Ivy's Freeze Up, which is one of my all-time favorite song. And the next page is a quoted lyric from the song 'Up In Arms' by the legendary Foo Fighters. Then there’s a lyric from the pre-chorus of ‘Bedless’ by Pierce The Veil in the next page, followed by Fall Out Boy’s ‘Homesick At Space Camp’ second verse in the next one. The next 10 pages is filled with various lyrics from Pierce The Veil, Operation Ivy, Rancid, and a bunch of other pretentious bands I like!
Day 6: "Collecting something? Make a zine about your collection"
Okay, the thing I collect are erasers! It may seem like something that might be boring but I have erasers that looked like ice cream, sushi, a pink cat, and a bunch of others! I never use them, of course, but they’re so cute and I wanted to buy more in the future. So I drew each of my erasers from my collection in an 8-page zine followed by detailed memories that I have with each of them. I have this squiggly pink, purple, and white eraser that’s as long as 15 or 20 centimeters, and I remember when I bought it such a long time ago, I never intended it to be used at all, because it will only be a cute accessory for my pencil case, but long story short my brother was born and he broke it in two, so I just kept it hidden from that point on. And this pink cat eraser I got just last year or the year after that, I treasured it so much to the point that it is my desk buddy. It’s such a cute cat and it’s pink! How can I resist? So, I just wrote about my eraser collection memories in this zine, pretty much.
Day 7: "Create a fully-illustrated short story book!"
Okay, I created this prompt myself, because you guys know being a children’s book author and illustrator is a secret dream of mine, so I finally made a short story book with full illustrations! The story is about a classic tween detective whose name is Bonnie, and she has 2 sidekicks—Amelie and Laura. So, they were student councils in junior high, and they were organizing an event for the school, like an art expo. But turns out someone had been stealing the money that’s supposed to be the event’s budget. They found out later that the thief is the student council vice president. It’s a classic betrayal story where the president of the student council is the one who asked Bonnie and her friends to find out who stole the money and ended up being betrayed by one of the person she trust the most, the vice president. The story ended up with the three tween detectives hosting a car wash and charity drive to raise money for the art expo event.
Day 8: "In a club? Write about it!"
I’m in 2 clubs at school, which is scouts and German club. I love them both equally but they’re a different category of love. So, I wanted to write about both of them! The scouts club has a special place in my heart because that’s the first club I joined when I started high school as a freshman, and I love most of the things I do there, like marching rules, pioneering, and morse codes. But as someone with a confidence as thin as a hair strand, I sometimes got forced to do public speaking in the club and would absolutely made a joke out of myself. And German club, I personally don’t love it as a club, but as a language. I love learning German, but sometimes our club teacher didn’t give enough material for a day, I noticed she’s lazy somedays, and that’s not good because we only have German club meetings every Tuesday, which is only once a week. It’s bad enough it’s only once a week, so why not use our 2 hours there to actually study German? Why? But nevertheless, I love German as a language, but I’m not fluent, yet. I’m hoping I would be someday… When that day comes, I’ll learn Russian.
Day 9: "Make a full zine dedicated to stamps!"
This is my own prompt, if you can’t already tell. I love stamps, I’ve been collecting them a lot recently, I have a full alphabet stamps, some mailing stamps, and stamps that I got from miscellaneous toys like Pikmi Pops and Kinder Joy. And I also have some different colored stamp pads, like the classic black, blue, and red, but also a huge 7-colors stamp pad full of rainbow pastel colors. So, in this zine, there’s no introduction, front cover, back cover, contents, nothing! Just pure stamping~ By far, this is the zine I enjoyed making most!
Day 10: "Talk about tattoos you’d love to get!”
The original prompt in this one is actually “Got Ink? Write about each one of them” or some sort, but haven’t got any ink, so I guess I’ll be writing about my ‘imaginary’ ones, a.k.a. the ones I’d love to get! I made a list of 5 tattoos I’d voluntarily put on myself. The first one is stars, I know that might be cringe one day, but who the hell cares? Does anyone in this whole world think ‘stars’ will be outdated one day? No! Because it’s a simple doodle that has been around for ages and not once did anyone got tired of it. Because it’s a classic, it’s basically timeless. Basically, stars will be in the sky forever, and no one can literally change that. The second one is the one and only Fischl von Luftschloss Narfidort, which is my favorite video game character. I, myself, did not identify as a Weeb or an Otaku gamer, but I do love some Mihoyo games like Genshin and Honkai 3rd. And out of all the characters they had, I've always had my eyes on Fischl and Fu Hua. Although, I guess I like Fischl more. So, I'd love to get a tattoo of small chibi Fischl on my right arm. The third one is about Pierce The Veil. Now, what I'm about to tell you is a little bit personal, I don't even tell this to my parents and friends. I used to cut. I cut less regularly now, but I think I just wanted to say to all of the teens out there who cut, you're not alone and don't ever think that you are. And if you're wondering why I'm comfortable sharing this online, the answer is simple... I'm sharing this as my pen name. The freedom of writing, people. Back to the tattoo, I want to get a Pierce The Veil 'Collide with the sky' logo on my left wrist, because that's where I used to cut, and it'll be a perfect cover-up. I usually wear a bunch of bracelets, other than the fact that it cover up my scars, it's also ‘scene’ to do so. The fourth and last one is my OCs. I have a bunch of original characters, you can see a couple of them in the ‘Artworks’ page in this blog. I’d like to get a tattoo of Elmo, the emo with the baseball cap, and Doris, the side-parted hair one.
Day 11: "Create a coloring zine."
I decided to make a coloring zine version of my “Bonnie, The Detective” short story. I basically re-did some of the small illustrations I drew in the original story zine but this time it’s only line art. At first I wanted to color it in after, but this is a ‘coloring zine’, so let’s act like it’s new and uncolored. So, like any other children’s coloring book, I made the front and back cover as fully-colored illustrations, the first page as a ‘table of contents’, the last page as ‘about the illustrator’, and 4 actual coloring pages. I made a couple of re-draws from the illustrated story book, but I can tell you they’re not exact replicas, I’m not the best at redrawing things, I mean, my original characters’ left and right eye are different sometimes. But that’s beside the point, I did a couple of redraws and new drawings of the 3 detectives, Bonnie, Amelie, and Laura, as a squad. And also the student council vice president who is the case’s culprit, with their scheming evil face hiding from the detectives.
Day 12: "Make a 'how-to' zine!”
Well, for this zine I had an idea to make one of my 'how to make your own CD mixtape' tutorial, like my existing article on "How I Make My Own Mixtapes." So, like I said in the article you need some supplies or you can just go to the nearby computer store that specifically can burn disks for you. So, first you have to download your mp3, wav, flac first, choose an audio file type based on what your CD player could play, but I recommend mp3. You can download mp3 from plenty of different platforms, I use Soulseeker. Then, you'll need a CD±R or CD±RW with you, they come in packs and singles, and it's pretty cheap to get. Now, after you get your CDs ready, use a disc burner that support the disc type and open a cd burning program or 'Windows Media Player' on your PC (I'm sorry for non-Windows user, I can't help you with this). You can see all of the mp3 you downloaded in the Windows Media Player, and now you can easily drag and drop the songs in your preferred order to the 'burn list' on the right. And just click 'burn disc'. Wait till it's finished burning (you'll know when the disc automatically pops out of the disc burner/writer. Now, your mixtape is ready to go!
Day 13: "Create a photo zine."
I had this scrapbook which is equivalent to a photo journal, and I used to make these monthly spreads that has photos I took that month or photos of me and I glued them to the scrapbook paper in a messy aesthetic way and decorated them with various papers, tapes, and stickers. My plan with this photo zine is that I could make it “scrapbook-style” and made it identical to those monthly pages that I used to do. So, I know just the perfect pictures to put the moment I saw this prompt! I have some favorite days where I go out with my sister and my favorite cousin. And we visited a photo booth there. So, I put on some photos from the photo booth , and some of my own selfies with my cousin. I decorated it to match the style of my monthly spreads and it’s done!
Day 14: "Make a zine reviewing your fav foods."
This zine is filled with the most delicious foods in the universe! I made the first page as a ‘food journey’ introduction, and the last page as an ‘about the eater’ profile. And the 4 pages between them is their own categories of food, The first one is dedicated to salty foods I like (like chicken porridge, grits, beef steak, and cheeseburger), the second one is about my favorite drinks (which is Americano, Long black, iced tea, and vanilla milkshake), the next one is all about my favorite snacks (potato chips, chocolate bars, and wafer rolls), and lastly my favorite desserts (cookies, ice cream, mochi, and Mille crêpes). I tried my best to draw each and one of them with colors, and they turn out pretty good with colored pencils.
Day 15: "Do you have siblings? Make a collab zine with them!"
I had an older sister and a younger brother. I liked my sister more, so I asked her but she said no, so I’ll have to force my brother to make this zine with me. He doesn’t know what a zine is and he doesn’t care, I’ll tell you. So I had to fight so hard just to get him to do doodles on them and they’re not even good. This is, so far, the hardest zine prompt to follow. I understand if some of you who wanted to follow this challenge wants to back out now.
Day 16: "Take a day off from zines."
For some of you who's been following this zine challenge with me, today is your time to take a break off of all of this zine chaos. I know it's pretty hard to be consistent when following a lengthy challenge like this, but here is your promised 1 day off.
Day 17: "Write a zine to your future self.”
I made this zine as a ‘’Questionnaire zine’ for my future self. I made a list of questions and write it in a similar style from the 365 days questionnaire in Rachel R. Russell’s Dork Diaries OMG All About Me Diary, with the structure of questions above, doodle below, and a space to answer the questions, and that’s followed with two questions in the next page. I made the first and second page a little more personal, I made a name label like the usual first page in Dork Diaries books, and in the second page I wrote a little bit about myself now and my dreams for the future. And the rest of the page is those questionnaire pages with 6 questions in total. The first question is about my career, am I working in a field similar to the one I dreamt about or not, and stuff like that. The second question is about money, am I financially wealthy or broke like I am now. The third question is about my personality, am I still like I am now or I sulk less in the future. The fourth question is about living status, do I still live with my parents (I hope not…) or do I have my own place. The fifth question is about hobbies, do I still do what I do now (do I still paint, sew, draw, write, play bass guitar, etc.). And the last question is about this blog, do I still write here or I quit a long time ago or I moved on to a new blog site.
Day 18: "Try your hand at a comic zine.”
I made a comic zine about my monsters OCs, called the Clawsies, consisted of Sandy, Lucra, and Daisy, who are best friends with superpowers. Sandy is a Frankenmonster with a time manipulation power, Lucra is a vampire with a shapeshifting power, and Daisy is a werewolf with a telekinesis power. In this comic zine, the Clawsies are in a mission to stop the evil baboon who’s destroying earth, called Papio. So, Papio had this giant laser device that can make the sun move towards the earth faster, accelerating the process of demolishing earth in just a count of hours. Now, they rushed towards the laser machine, trying to destroy it, and they each used their superpowers to the fullest to defeat Papio right after because turns out Papio had a “plan B.” The comic ends when they prevent Papio from using his “plan B”, which is a portable magnetic laser that’s 10 times more powerful than the previous laser device. The Clawsies celebrated their victory with a magazine cover of them in the last comic panel.
Day 19: "Make a webzine!"
This is the zine I put the most effort in, because I wanted to share it here after I turn it into a PDF after this article’s published. A webzine is a zine you made by creating/drawing a zine digitally and turning it into a pdf where readers can read it online much like an e-book. This zine is about my OCs, which is short for Original Characters. I’ve made a couple of OCs in my lifetime as an analog and digital artist and I like creating my own OCs because they’re so fun to make, it’s like designing a character. So, you could click here to check out the first part of the webzine, and have fun scrolling through the zine! (part 2 soon)
Day 20: "Get nerdy with a book review zine."
I haven’t read a ton of books, so forgive me if a book I’ve read and liked is a common one or an “overrated” one because the book I’m reviewing in this zine is ‘Crime and Punishment’ by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I, of course, read the English translation, so I think it’s a little different than if you read it in Russian, but I think it’s still the same story, just with different wording because I know some Russian words can’t be directly translated to English. I think it’s still such an interesting book for me, and I don’t know if that’s good or not because this is the first Russian classic novel that I’ve read, and I read this book a long time ago. I have mixed feelings about Rodka’s character, because he’s slowly descending into madness in every page I don’t know if I trust his narrative anymore, and I don’t like his thinking of the Napoleon Bonaparte as the ‘extraordinary’ who’s above good and evil, and I also don’t like him just asking Sonya to run away with him, I think it’s demeaning for her to only have known him for a short amount of time and to suddenly got asked to run away together with him. That fact got me thinking despite all his effort to hide his crimes from the world, he still think he’s extraordinary enough to do that. But there are some characters I like, for example; Svidrigailov. Now, I’m not sure about his suicide but I think he deserves better. But I don’t want to get cancelled here, so let’s leave it at that.
Day 21: "Collect a bunch of junk or trash and make a zine out of the collection."
This is the chunkiest zine I’ve done in this challenge. You might’ve think the ‘photo zine’ is chunky but there’s something far more chunkier than that. It’s called the “junk zine.” It kind of sounds like “jungle” and that’s the perfect description for it because I put a lot of small random sticks I found around school and also stolen pebbles from my front yard. And I had this “arts and crafts material” bag that’s filled with those nature junks like dried pinecones, wood sticks, dried plants, and a bunch of seeds. I’ve had that bag for quite some time now and I think it’s time to use them. I taped most of them to the zine itself and write a little comment on each of them, but I also draw little face doodles on some of them so they had a little bit more character. I think doing this type of zine is fun but I think some of these items will rot in a few years, so I had doubts on whether to keep it or not. Hey, if you’re still tuning in this far, what do you think?
Day 22: "Lists!! Create a zine full of random lists!!"
6 pages versus my lists! Hmm, who won? Me! It wasn’t even a challenge because I already have more than 6 lists in my Notion and Xtiles (my two favorite second-brain programs!), The first list is a bucket list, which, for those who don’t know, is a list of things you want to do before you die. The page itself had enough space for only 5 things in the bucket list and they were; Become fluent in 3+ languages, Master bass guitar, visit Europe & America, Own a business/small business, and live by myself. The second list is my wish list, I have a bunch of stuff I wanted to buy, like; a button pin badge maker, a Nokia phone with a microSD slot and camera, alcohol markers with brush tips (like Ohuhu or Copic), inline skate shoes, and Bratz Rock Angelz doll (Yasmin edition). The third is a list of classic novels to read, which is; 1984 by George Orwell, Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Diary of a Madman by Nikolai Gogol, and A Sportsman’s Sketches by Ivan Turgenev. The fourth list is my top 5 art mediums, like; Alcohol markers, Colored pencils, Acrylic markers, Gouache paints, and Acrylic paints. The fifth is a list of my top 5 sports, which is; Taekwondo, Volleyball, Baseball, Basketball, and Cricket. And last, a list of my top 5 hobbies, which is; drawing, writing, listening to music, playing video games, and crafting.
Day 23: "What’s an item you buy constantly? Write about it.”
The answer is headphones and earphones. I’ve lost counts on how many wired earphones I purchased over and over again because they’re always broken after 0-12 months of use. Yeah, one of them didn’t last a day after I bought them, which is weird because that’s actually one of the nice and in the pricey side than the other earphones I’ve purchased. But I guess I forgot to do an audio check after purchasing those, I could’ve got a refund for that. Back to the other earphones, I am a person who listens to music constantly and I just can’t go on a day without hearing my favorite records, so it only makes sense I also sleep with earphones on my ears, hence why they break so easily when being used by me. But I can’t help it, the only time I didn’t listen to music to sleep is when I only had headphones around. If I only had headphones around, I can’t risk breaking it in my sleep, but it’s different with earphones because they’re flexible. So, this zine is all about the history of my 3 wireless headphones, 2 wired headphones, 3 Bluetooth earbuds, and unlimited wired earphones.
Day 24: "FREE ZINE!”
I made a zine about “Guerilla 101” where I explain the entirety of Guerilla Street Art. The front cover is my personal favorite because I made a sick drawing of a guy with a skateboard in a mid-air ollie pose and the “Guerilla 101” title just behind just like those fashion magazine titles. And I color-coded the whole zine with lavender, teal, and pink colors. The first page is about Guerilla street art as a definition, and the next page is about the postcard-style Guerilla Art, followed by the Polaroid-style in the next one. The fourth page is about both the origami-style and the sticky-notes-style of Guerilla Art. The fifth page is the deep dive about the envelope-style Guerilla Art. And the last page is the ending and a suggestion for other Guerilla Street Art ideas. Basically, this whole zine is about my take on Guerilla Street Art projects that could be done anywhere at anytime. This zine turns out to be the most aesthetically pleasing zine I’ve done in this challenge.
Day 25: "Get nostalgic by recalling your favorite childhood animations/shows!”
I had a lot in mind when I made this prompt! So, my favorite childhood animations were My Little Pony, Bratz, Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse, Strawberry Shortcake, Totally Spies, and a couple of other animations I can’t remember. So, that’s all I’m writing about in this zine. I write about my favorite characters in those shows and my favorite episodes and scenes in the shows, for example: my favorite character on “My Little Pony” was Rainbow Dash, back in the day, she’s everything I aspire to be in life. My favorite character in “Bratz: Starrin’ and Stylin’” was Cloe, because I like blonde girlbosses. My favorite character in “Strawberry Shortcake” was Plum Pudding, and I love that one episode where she showed off her ballet skills. And my favorite character in “Totally Spies” was Sam, she’s just like me! My favorite episode in “Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse” is that one pool party episode where Ryan tries to impress barbie by jumping to the pool “with style” but failed 2 times, I laughed so hard in every rewatch.
Day 26: “Sketchzine! Don’t draw on your sketchbook today, instead turn a zine into your sketchbook!”
My Sketchzine’s cover is an imitation of my current sketchbook’s cover, which is a Muji B6 spiral sketchbook that has a lot of stickers from miscellaneous source, like star stickers, homemade OC stickers, printed band logo stickers, and album covers. And I did the same thing with the back cover, in which my sketchbook has these doodles of a bass guitar, headphone, vinyl records, band logos, and an Mp3 player, all of those drawn with pink, purple, black, and white acrylic markers. I like how these turn out! It really looked like the real thing. And as for the drawings, I did a couple of sketches and random practice drawings, because since the last week I’ve been trying to weaponize my hand to be a reference for hand drawings. It would be epic if I could turn my hand into references for my illustrations just by looking. It would be more awesome if I could draw hands without looking at the real thing, but one can only dream. So I made these 6 pages into my own series of sketches and drawings.
Day 27: "Around you: make a zine dedicated to still lifes of the objects around you.”
Since I’m always on my desk while making a zine, the first half of this zine has objects near my school desks, and the second half has still lifes of objects near the desk in my room. There’s a bunch of drawings of my textbooks, my desk mate’s water bottle, and a bunch of my classmates’ random keychains or bag pins in their backpacks. And the second half has drawings of my huge ‘everything pencil case’ where I put all my favorite art supplies and stationeries, my planner, a calculator that I’ve had since forever, that one finger skateboard I had as a desk toy, a pile of sticky notes, washi tapes, stamps, and a tin container filled with white chalks. I drew everything I see on my desk, basically.
Day 28: "Create a triangle diary and document your day.”
If you don’t know what a triangle diary is, it’s a daily log where you could create 4 triangle in a paper by drawing an “X” on a paper and draw 4 things you did in a day, followed by the next page on which you had to draw a combined drawing on the 4 things you did, and voila! It turns into an illustration. You could search it up on Google if you wanted further information about it. But what I’m going to do here, in this zine, is that I’ll make 3 of these triangle diary with what I did in the morning, afternoon, and evening so we can complete 6 pages today. Morning, since there’s no school today, I wake up, then make breakfast and eat it, then I drew a little on my sketchbook, and watch Youtube after that. That’s my 4 morning panels, and the combined illustration is pretty funky on this one, because there’s multiple me’s… In the afternoon, I began drawing the morning panels in the zine, I showered after that, then I eat lunch, and lastly I make a couple of to do lists on my planner. And in the evening, I eat dinner, then I did a couple of homeworks, I finish up the zine, and I write about the rest of today’s challenge. I think making these are enjoyable, but it will be more enjoyable if the 4 triangles is for the whole day. I would like to make a daily diary this kind of style in the future.
Day 29: "Yay! We’re making an animation! Draw your storyboard without context in a zine!”
I’d like to think this zine is just a series of layout or composition studies, because it highlights the placement of things cinematically, and since we can’t write the context of the story as well. I basically made an animation storyboard about Elmo and Doris (my beautiful original characters) creating their own band and finding recruits to fill in some empty positions like a drummer, a vocalist, and a keyboardist, since Elmo’s on electric guitar and Doris’ already on bass. So, The first couple of panels is just them putting up posters near music stores and studios. They gave up because no one seems to be interested. They finally wrote a song on Elmo’s garage and their music attracted some of the musicians in the neighborhood, resulting in the creation of the band itself. The zine had a total of 16 panels of drawings and I think it looks like a silent comedy like Charlie Chaplin and Mr. Bean in a form of drawing. I definitely want to make more of these in my own sketchbook!
Day 30: "Final challenge: make a zine about zine prompts!”
The zine prompts in this zine is the same prompts I made for this challenge! I think it’s the perfect final prompt to end this challenge once and for all. I summarized each prompts and explain a little about each of them. And for all of you who had decided to follow this challenge, feel free to change any prompts you don’t like and it’s also fine if you only followed a couple of these prompts as well. Hey, freedom of decisions, am I right?
That’s all for this week’s article, like I promised you in the previous article, this is a long one, but I hope you enjoyed reading this and I hope some of you will be interested enough to follow this challenge or recreate some of these prompts, I’ll appreciate it if you can share it in the comment down below as a “draw this in your style” challenge but with zines! See you next week for the last interval article before we continue our next Guerilla Street Art project this month! See you later. Lane out.
