Lane’s Pick of Summer Break Activities

Summer break isn’t as long as I had expected, and that means some of the activities I had in mind for summer is no longer doable. But set that aside, I still have some activities I had in mind to do this summer break, and we’re going to cover most of it in this week’s post.

From high urgency, Scouts practice is still on this summer, because we’re preparing for the club performance to showcase to the upcoming freshmen, and our goal this year is to welcome 25 new scouts member, and we still haven’t come up with a strategy to pull out that many freshmen into our stand, but I’m in charge of our stand design and our club poster so I will do my best to make it look interesting. Currently, we’re preparing to do a dance performance and a formation variation routine using scout staffs.

Some other main summer activities I’d planned is the one with my long-distance cousin and my sister. The activities mentioned includes sleepover at our grandmother’s house, checking out cafes in town to go to, and going to the beach to take photos for some new social media photo profile. But, unfortunately my cousin is coming to the city a little bit later than we had planned, so these activities had to wait.

This summer, I’m also collecting my artworks and illustration works to make a portfolio, because I’m searching for some design-related part-time jobs for the summer, my main goal being Canva Creators Program. I’m currently organizing my portfolio in a Readymag site. I don’t have enough commercial works yet to showcase right now, so the portfolio is still in the works. When the portfolio site is ready, I’ll apply to the program. For the actual design-uploading part, I could do it when I start school.

Activities involving only myself, like hobbies, are also in my summer plans. Including doing a bass guitar class, where I finally could do focused bass guitar practice instead of what I do now. I’m planning to do a beginner/basic class for 3 months, more or less, so that I have enough basic knowledge of the instrument and practice by myself daily. Since summer break this year is only 3 weeks, then the bass guitar class will still go on when school started. My plan is, 5 days a week this summer, and when school started it became 2 days a week but longer sessions. I know the 2 days a week may not seem optimal, but this new academic year, school will only be 5 days a week, where Saturday will be considered a weekend, and because we didn’t go to school and study on Saturday, the rest of the week adds hours of study, and from Monday to Friday school will end on 4 PM instead of 2 PM. And on Monday till Thursday, I usually have a tutoring schedule at 6 PM until late evening, so I think the only safe option here is bass lessons on Saturday and Sunday on school weeks.

I also wanted to practice skating daily, because as I’ve said in the previous posts, I used to really love cruising with my board and did a couple of tricks here and there, but nowadays my board’s been sitting in the cupboard for some time, so I kind of miss the old days where I would sleep over at my grandmother’s house with my cousin and when the others are indoor, I sneaked out and cruise with my board all around the house. I will bring my board with me during July’s sleepover at our grandmother’s house when my cousin arrived at the city.

This summer, my sister, my cousin, and I agreed that we had to learn driving, because I wanted to get my license as soon as possible. And for the first step, I wanted to learn how to drive a motorbike, so I could potentially go to school by myself and go to scout practice by myself. And after that, I wanted to learn how to drive a car, even though I don’t intend on driving a whole family or having a family later in life myself, but I wanted to learn how to do it because I already have a dream car, which is the Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am, any ‘70s edition of one of those. They look so sick! I wanted one immediately when I first saw it. I believe that it’s my soulmate.

Let’s talk about studies next. So, starting next semester, there’s subjects that we had to take and also optional subjects, and my class’ optional subjects are Advanced Mathematics, Physics, Arts, Economics, and Computer Science. The main problem is that I’m not good at math, but my class unfortunately got advance math as its subject, but there’s also the general math subject which is one of the mandatory subject, so for the next 2 years of my life, I’m forced to study 9 hours worth of mathematics every week, and that’s not including my tutoring lessons. Hell, how could I survive this. That summarizes the reason for this next summer break activity which is learning mathematics in my free time. This is the least exciting summer break activity I’ve planned, but it could also determine my place in this school.

I’ve been meaning to develop and do a daily workout routine to help me stay in shape. I’ve been exercising but not in a routine and productive manner. And that has to stop. I kept procrastinating plans to do my workout routine, and in reality, I need this because I wanted to gain more weight. I’m too skinny for my own good, and been differentiated a lot because of it, but the main reason I’m exercising is because if I wanted to get back into martial arts again, I could step back in easily because I’m already in shape for it.

Those are one of the many activities I had planned for this summer break. Some of these had to go of course, because I’m afraid I’m running out of time to do stuff around now, but some of these activities I will happily lend a time for. I would also like to apologize for the absence of last week’s article, my family had sudden holiday plans everyday, and I had to be there without consent. But that’s no excuse for me to skip a week worth of post, so I apologize further. That’s all for this week’s blog, and I’ve planned a very exciting one for next week’s so stay tuned and goodbye!
